The Autonomous Region: Poems & Photographs from Tibet is a 1993 Bloodaxe Books collection of poems by Kathleen Jamie and black-and-white photographs by Sean Mayne Smith. It grew out of their spring 1989 journey through Amdo and Tibet, among nomads, pilgrims, monks and traders, which was cut short in June by the Tiananmen Square events and a military clampdown. Jamie's poems interweave her own travels with those of Fa-hsein, a fourth-century Chinese Buddhist monk, and Princess Wen Cheng.
